The following article is provided by The Clearity Foundation to support women with ovarian cancer and their families. Learn more about The Clearity Foundation and the services we provide directly to women as they make treatment decisions and navigate emotional impacts of their diagnosis.

The Clearity Foundation held its Teal Woman 10th Anniversary Celebration on September 16, 2018, at the Paradise Point Resort. The event, themed, “Teal Woman: Celebrating Life. Honoring Courage. Recognizing Progress. Changing the Story for Ovarian Cancer,” helped us to shine a light on the Teal Woman, raising awareness about the teal ribbon during Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, hoping to help women with ovarian cancer feel less alone.

The event was a huge success, with more than 375 guests in attendance and an overall total of $340,000 raised for The Clearity Foundation’s programs and services, benefitting the ovarian cancer community. We far exceeded our fundraising goals, raising $177,000 during the evening alone, through the generosity of our wonderful attendees.

These funds will help women and families facing ovarian cancer get the information, testing, and support they need to help extend, improve, and even save their lives. What a fantastic way to celebrate 10 years of service!

Highlights of the Evening

Our exciting entertainment program started off with a 90-minute set by the popular live band of Eve Selis, and finished with a heartfelt performance by Caly Bevier, a truly inspiring singer and ovarian cancer survivor.

Speed painting performance artist and survivor, Amy Burkman, created two incredible portraits on the spot and generously offered to auction off four more paintings, for a total of $32,000 raised!

Our Honorary Committee Chair, Andy Laats, shared his meaningful story about his experience with his wife Liz, and her fight against ovarian cancer. He ended his speech with a powerful message of encouragement.

There were also inspirational and educational speeches by Clearity’s Founder, Dr. Laura Shawver, and Executive Director, Hillary Theakston. Buck Dodson, Executive Director of The Susan Poorman Blackie Ovarian Cancer Foundation, spoke about his personal connection to Clearity and the importance of providing both physical and emotional support to women with ovarian cancer.
